Why Monarch Money
If you're coming from Monarch Money, you don't have to start from scratch. Wilson can import your full transaction history, categories, and account structure — so your financial picture stays intact.
The integration deduplicates against existing Wilson data, so you can import safely even if you've already been using Wilson with CSV imports. Categories are mapped to Wilson's Plaid-aligned taxonomy automatically.
Monarch is a solid product. But it's closed-source, cloud-only, and you can't audit what happens with your data. If you're ready to own your financial data, Wilson is the off-ramp.
What you get
Import full transaction history from Monarch
Preserves categories, tags, and account structure
Deduplication against existing Wilson data
CSV fallback if API access breaks
Honest limitations
Unofficial API
Monarch doesn't publish an official API. This integration reverse-engineers their endpoints. It works today, but may break when they update their app.
Credentials stored in plaintext
Your Monarch credentials are stored in ~/.openaccountant/config.toml. We're working on keychain integration, but for now, treat this file as sensitive.
CSV fallback available
If the API breaks, you can always export from Monarch as CSV and import via Wilson's standard CSV parser. Same data, different pipe.
Migrate from Monarch.
Keep your history. Own your data. Wilson handles the transition.
